ALARM INFORMATION

The best intruder alarms have two main features.

  • High Visibility – An outside siren that is distinctive and at a height that it can be easily seen. Sirens can be lost on a building if the siren is too high it may not be noticed at all. Window stickers are used and encouraged as they will enhance the deterrent aspect in conjunction with an outside siren.
  • Some Insurance Companies now require the installation of exterior sirens for systems to comply with their specifications.
  • Noise – All Intruder Alarms should have at least an inside siren of 110 – 120 decibels as this will unnerve the offender it will not make them sick or leave them comatose on the floor as some people claim. The loudest rock group’s out put level is around 100 – 110 decibels while annoying to some it gives pleasure to others. An outside siren’s noise is of less importance than its visual deterrence. An offender inside will not hear the outside siren over the inside siren and the outside siren may alert a neighbor if they are home.

ABOUT OUR ALARM SYSTEMS

Alarm Panels
  • The panel has an “upload and download” facility to allow remote programming and diagnosis. (conditions apply)
  • Simple, user friendly keypads
  • If your alarm is monitored by us, the panel transmits essential information to assist us to ensure your alarm is in correct working order and provide appropriate response to your alarm in the event of an activation.
  • Detection of tampering with the outside siren or control panel
  • Detection of mains and battery failures

The Alarm Panel is fitted with a backup battery which should keep the system fully operational for a period in excess of 24 hours if the main power fails. If monitored by us the alarm will send us a signal telling us that the main power has failed and we will monitor the situation closely and make sure your alarm keeps going. The batteries average life is approximately 3-4 years.

Detectors

There are a multitude of detectors available, we will install the detector that best suits the environment to be covered in conjunction with the clients requirements. The positioning and adjustment of the detector is just as important as selecting the right detector for the situation. The best detector will not detect an intruder if it is poorly aimed, de-tuned or mounted incorrectly. Unfortunately we have encountered many instances of incorrectly installed detectors, unsuitable detectors for the assigned environments both resulting in insufficient protection/detection from the alarm system.

External Satellite Siren

Insurance companies are now demanding as part of their compliance requirements that external sirens are installed on alarm systems. Be aware that a lot of cheaper alarm systems being offered do not have an exterior siren included and rely totally on the monitoring station to detect and respond to an alarm activation. Should the connection between the alarm and the monitoring station fail, there is no exterior alarm to sound as a backup.

The sirens can be constructed of either stainless steel and should be double skinned – inner and outer shell or in a polycarbonate material which we install with the majority of our alarm systems.

Smoke Detectors

With the addition of smoke detectors the intruder alarm expands into a full security system. Installation of smoke detectors Commercial applications are dependent on the construction of the buildings and the fire regulations. Domestic installations require 1 smoke detector to be installed within 3 meters of each sleeping area (bedroom).
